Sunny and I first met through mutual family friends back in high school, though we can never agree on who actually remembers our first meeting. What we do agree on is our first real core memory together: joint dance practices for a cultural program. My first impression of Sunny was that he was the older, cooler, super laid-back kind of friend, while his first impression of me was that I was not only the best dancer in the group (or at least his favorite) but also witty and full of personality. Years later, we even performed that same dance at our wedding, which was a full-circle moment for us, this time as dance and life partners.
As the years went on since our first meeting, we became best friends. Over time, that friendship naturally grew into something more, as being at the same college only brought us closer.
Even now, years later, Sunny’s laid-back nature perfectly balances my playful wit, and somehow, that mix has made every day together feel effortless, full of laughter, and completely ours.
