Our paths crossed unexpectedly, or perhaps it was meant to be. It was the summer before Grade 8, and my elementary school was transitioning from a K-8 to a K-5, which meant I had to transfer schools for my final year. During the orientation tour, I noticed a boy with green eyes, something so rare it made me pause. I was curious, and somehow, I just knew I wanted to get to know him.
Fate seemed to agree. As we both started high school, our families coincidentally moved to the same area. We began carpooling and walking home from school, turning routine journeys into mini adventures filled with laughter, endless conversations, and the first sparks of something more. Somewhere between those walks and late-night chats, our friendship blossomed into love, and by 2010, we officially started dating.
High school brought milestones like prom, and after graduation, we set off to Brock University together. Those years were a whirlwind late-night study session, spontaneous road trips, parties, and the beautiful chaos of young adulthood. We grew as individuals but never grew apart, always anchoring each other through life’s ups and downs.
After undergrad, life took us in different directions. I went to teacher’s college, while Rick pursued law school in Kansas. The distance was tough, but our bond never wavered. We stayed best friends, finishing each other’s sentences, singing our hearts out on loud drives whenever we reunited, and savoring every moment spent together.
In 2021, after 11 years of love, Rick proposed. We got engaged in 2022 and finally tied the knot in 2024 with the people who matter the most. Our love story isn’t just about the big moments but the countless small ones, the shared laughter, the unwavering support, and the sheer joy of doing life side by side.
From childhood friends to life partners, we’ve grown up together, evolving individually yet always choosing each other. And as we step into this new chapter, we do so with full hearts, knowing that our greatest adventure is just beginning.
