Mehak + Kanishk, The Palm, Dubai Wedding

She proposed to him: A Modern Proposal, a Traditional Indian Wedding in Dubai

Our wedding was a celebration of love, equality, and individuality, blending our unique cultures with a modern twist. It all began with an unconventional proposal—Kanishk proposed to me during a stunning Santorini sunset, and I surprised him with my own flash mob proposal in United States of America, breaking the stereotype of proposals being a man’s job.only.

Planning our wedding while living in Seattle was challenging, but we embraced it as a joint effort. To support local businesses, we partnered with Indian vendors and women entrepreneurs, ensuring every detail reflected our values. Dubai’s W Hotel, with its stunning beachfront and sunset views, became our dream wedding venue

Our theme mirrored our love for tradition and nature. Inspired by Sabyasachi’s regal Indian heritage, we chose to depict royal Indian heritage in our décor, that stood out beautifully amidst Dubai’s modern charm.

We customized rituals to emphasize equality—replacing kanyadaan with a kanya and var milan ceremony, and updating the phera chants to reflect mutual respect. Skipping the traditional vidaai, we ended with a joyful after-party, celebrating our union as equals. It was more than a wedding—it was a testament to love, culture, and equal partnership.
