Lisa & Mike began dating in February of 2013. Their senior year of high school. Although they attended different schools, that didn’t stop them from spending nearly everyday together before Lisa moved away to Connecticut to pursue her studies in Pharmacy. Mike attended college in their home state of NY, which allowed Lisa to visit often. The two spent their first 5 years of their relationship long distance. There were weekends where Mike would drive up to New England to visit Lisa at UConn and weekends where Lisa would travel back home to see Mike.
Through the many FaceTime calls, driving miles and I miss you’s, it was finally time for Lisa to move back home to Queens, NY in 2019.
The two discussed their future and were so excited for all the excitement to come.
Mike then proposed to Lisa on December 25, 2020 at their favorite spot. Gantry Plaza State Park, or The Pier, as Lisa & Mike would call it. The Pier, located in Long Island City, Queens overlooked Manhattan beautifully. But on this day, it felt like the coldest day of the year, however Mike somehow made it the warmest for Lisa.
Their intimate proposal was captured so beautifully by Lisa’s photographer cousin, MakeYourMark. Which made the moment even more special.
The couple were greeted back at home by their family and friends.
The couple ultimately decided to host a destination wedding in Cancun Mexico. This was no easy feat. With their West Indian background, Lisa & Mike, along with their parents planned the most authentic Guyanese wedding abroad.
Lisa & her mom, Indra, wanted to keep each event true to their Hindu and Caribbean culture. This lead to hosting a Maticoor Ceremony the day before the wedding. Playing Tassa drums through the Grooms Barhaat. And Lisa’s traditional attire of a yellow lehenga AND a red lehenga on the wedding day.
