If you know me, then you know that I love podcasts. I want to say that I’m usually listening to something cool, but nine times out of ten, I’m listening to science podcasts. There’s one episode in particular that always reminds me of Priya whenever I hear it… in it, an astronomer talks about the early stages of our solar system’s formation… when there was just a bunch of debris constantly colliding against each other. During this period, a huge rock smashed into what would become the earth, and a piece that broke off from that collision became the moon. Since then, there’s been a constant tugging between the earth and moon’s gravities that has caused the earth’s rotation to slow down. Scientists have been able to quantify the impact of this and estimate that each day is actually .0000000054 seconds longer than the previous day… and although we, as humans, will always define a day as a 24 hour interval, there’s something comforting in knowing that each day, by the universe’s calculation, I’ll have a little bit more time to spend with the woman I love.
