Jason + Vick, a Riviera Maya Wedding

Can you share how you both met?

They say social media can be a harmful distraction for the world, but for some, it can bring their energy and love together over a platform. Many ions ago, one of the world’s largest international electronic dance music festivals took place in Atlanta, Georiga, and its name was TomorrowWorld. Those who went quickly can attest that it was the best festival in America, bringing hundreds of thousands of people from different walks of life and cultures together to celebrate the community and love for dance music. Two strangers possibly crossed paths at the same yearly gathering but never met, spoke, or knew each other. The universe had something quote more extraordinary in store for them in the following months.

Before Facebook fell victim to ads, many used it to truly connect with people and share their experiences over Facebook Groups, where tons of people entered a group on the platform to show love for the same thing; in this case, it was the official TomorrowWorld Facebook Group. Vick Sura posted a photo of Armin Van Burren, a legendary trance dj, that caught Jason’s attention as he is a huge fan of trance and that artist. Jason went to comment on the photo and then clicked on Vick’s profile and instantly saw an attraction there and noticed he lived in Atlanta, Georgia. The location was only one state above Tampa, Florida, where Jason was still attending the University of South Florida.

Without hesitation, Jason reached out to Vick on Facebook Messenger on November 17th, 2015, and started talking about their love for dance music, TomorrowWorld, their plans for the future, and life. Both were not entirely out to their friends or family yet, so this was almost like a Romeo & Juliet love story in the making, but with two guys. Each day went by with non-stop texting, some Facetimes here and there to confirm this was not a catfish, and it seemed like hours could go by during the day and night where conversations just came so quickly to one another. Jason told Vick that he was attending Ultra Music Festival 2016 and was hoping he would be in attendance so they could finally meet in person, but sadly Vick admitted he did not have a ticket.

Fast forward to the following month, and on Christmas morning, one of Vick’s presents was an Ultra Music Festival ticket. I remember seeing it on Facebook and instant messaging him, lighting up joyfully inside. The universe seemed to push us to meet, and things aligned without being forced. Both our reactions were on the same page of excitement and wondering what this all meant for us. It begged the question of what this is turning into or what it could turn into.

As winter finally came to a close, the spring bloomed with a packed entire month of work for Jason; as someone in the music industry knows, the beginning of the festival season is crazy. His plans began with covering the first Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival, then Buku Music + Art Project, with finally ending in beautiful Miami for Miami Music Week and Ultra Music Festival. Vick was driving down to Miami from Atlanta, and our plans to first meet were at the first-ever SLANDER: GUD VIBRATIONS event in Miami. With hesitation over the number of feelings Jason had for someone who he had never even met in real life, he did the worst possible act and turned off his phone and ghosted Vick. Please note that Vick was attending Ultra with his younger sister and another friend and was not just attending it to meet up with Jason.

Before Snapchat, there wasn’t a way to track where people were, so as the morning sun rose on that Friday for the first day of Ultra, Jason still had not reached out to Vick or answered anything, and at this point, Vick was well past even thinking of Jason as anything, even a friend. They continued their journey with their friends to Ultra day one without informing each other of when they got there, who they were seeing, and where they would be. It was not even about 30 minutes into entering the festival grounds when Jason heard his being yelled “JASON” and long, behold, it was Vick. Some like to call this a coincidence, and others call this destiny that two individuals find each other at an event where hundreds of thousands are without prior communication.

Jason’s friends, including his best friends, were meeting him for the first time, and the weekend began. It was one of those cliche moments where the rest became history because both connected on a whole new level. It is almost like the show Love is Blind because all we did for months leading up to the meeting was getting to know each other through talking and texting. On the last day, both Vick and Jason went over the live stage, and Jason poured his heart out during Rabbit In The Moon and asked Vick to be his boyfriend; they both knew all the challenges that they would one day face with Vick being Punjabi as well as both not even being fully out to their families and not even living in the same state, but when you know, you know.

We are finally here after dating long distances for a year, countless music festivals, life milestones, living cross country, a pandemic, and two German Shepards later. If it weren’t for their friends and family’s constant support and encouragement, we would not be where we are and over the moon with getting to celebrate this special day with everyone.

The Proposal-

The Proposal in Tulum: A Moment Among the Treetops

Our love story had seen many milestones—countless music festivals, life’s ups and downs, and even the adoption of two German Shepherds. But as we embarked on our first international trip together to Tulum, I knew this moment would be the most significant yet. Tulum, with its natural beauty, felt like the perfect place to take this next step. It wasn’t just a beautiful destination; it was a symbol of new beginnings and shared adventures.

I was incredibly anxious leading up to that night. The weight of the moment, the commitment, and even the anticipation of my family’s reaction lingered in my mind, but I didn’t let it stop me. At the end of the day, I knew my happiness was what truly mattered, and Jason made me happier than I’d ever been.

I had help from my best friend, the General Manager at Karma Tulum, a stunning tri-level restaurant nestled near the beach. We reserved the top floor, where the treetops seemed to stretch up and embrace us, as if nature itself was part of our celebration. The evening was set perfectly—a private space, candles flickering, and the soulful notes of a saxophone filling the air. It was intimate, romantic, and everything I had envisioned.

The moment came. With my heart racing, I poured out everything I felt. I told Jason how much he had changed me over the six years of us dating—how he made me a better man, more confident, more sure of myself. In that instant, it wasn’t just the two of us anymore; it was the culmination of all the love and support we’d had along the way from our friends who were there to witness this moment. It felt like the universe itself was on our side.

Jason stood there speechless. So much so that one of our friends had to nudge him, laughing, “Well, what’s your answer?!” And then he said yes. The moment exploded with celebration—sparklers lit up the night, the staff cheered with us, and everything around us sparkled with the joy of the moment.

Surrounded by our best friends who had supported us from day one, it was more than just a proposal. It was a reflection of our journey—of the love we’ve shared, the challenges we’ve faced, and the incredible people we’ve been lucky enough to have by our side.

That night among the trees was the first step toward our wedding weekend, a testament to who we are and the beautiful future ahead of us.

The vision for the wedding, where ?why? when?

A Celebration of Love and Culture: Our Wedding Vision

We always dreamed of a wedding that would be more than just an event—it would be an immersive experience, a luxurious and festive celebration that captured the spirit of love, music, and the beauty of Mexico. Our guests weren’t just attending a wedding; they were embarking on a weekend getaway, surrounded by the tropical paradise of Riviera Maya.

We chose Unico 2087 as the perfect resort for this celebration. Its intimate setting and perfect placement along the coast made it the ideal backdrop for everything we had envisioned. The resort’s charm allowed us to create the personal, heartfelt atmosphere we wanted for ourselves and our guests, giving everyone the chance to relax and revel in the joy of the moment.

For us, the union was more than two lives coming together—it was East meeting West in a beautiful fusion of cultures. Our three-day celebration honored both of our backgrounds, blending traditional Punjabi elements with Western influences. From the vibrant music to the carefully selected attire, every detail told the story of our journey together. The sounds of dhol drums mixed with modern beats, and the elegant fabrics of both cultures were woven into one seamless experience, celebrating the richness of who we are.

We wanted every guest to feel like a VIP because their love and support brought us to this point. Without them, this moment wouldn’t have been possible. This wasn’t just a wedding; it was a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who has walked alongside us, shared in our happiness, and lifted us up during the tough times.

Vick had always dreamed of a destination wedding—a more intimate gathering where we could celebrate against a breathtaking tropical backdrop. Unico 2087’s serene location along the Riviera Maya coastline set the stage for an unforgettable weekend of love, laughter, and endless memories.

Our families and friends filled the air with laughter, and their speeches reflected the depth of the bond we share with them—funny, heartfelt, and full of appreciation. These moments of gratitude, love, and support from those we cherish meant the world to us.

And though our beloved German Shepherds couldn’t be there with us, we made sure to incorporate them into the celebration. From socks with their adorable faces to signature cocktails named in their honor, they were with us in spirit, woven into the fabric of the day.

In the end, our wedding wasn’t just a celebration of us—it was a tribute to the love and energy of everyone we hold dear. We envisioned it as a weekend filled with infectious love, music, and the kind of joy that stays with you forever.
