Hey there, lovebirds! I’m Megha, and I’m so excited to share our extraordinary love story with you. It all began during Memorial Day Weekend at my cousin’s BBQ. Little did I know that amidst the laughter and sizzling burgers, I would meet the person who would sweep me off my feet and become my forever partner—Dipen. Fast forward two months, and there we were, reunited at a beautiful wedding. Dipen and I danced the night away as I did not know many people at the wedding, but it sparked something which was just the beginning of our story. A few weeks later, I decided to take a chance on fate and see where this could potentially take me. Now, let me take you to that unforgettable day when Dipen asked me out on a date. Picture this: I’m nervously waiting at the airport to pick him up. Yes, you heard that right, our first date involved me being a chauffeur! Talk about unconventional beginnings, right? But you know what? It made our love story even more unique and filled with laughter. We explored Jersey City, NJ, hand in hand, discovering the magic of getting to know each other.

Time flew by, and five amazing years passed in the blink of an eye. Those years were filled with countless adventures, endless laughter, and the sharing of dreams. On our 5-year anniversary, Dipen surprised me with a romantic beachside dinner on December 18th, 2021. As the day unfolded, with beach activities and anticipation building, we made our way to the dinner location. Little did I know that a beautiful surprise awaited us. A kind lady approached us and revealed she had an anniversary surprise in store. Blindfolded, we walked hand in hand down the sidewalk, guided by the enchanting melodies of a violinist playing our favorite love songs. I could sense Dipen’s presence, slightly lower than mine, and in that moment, I felt a surge of emotion. As the blindfold was lifted, I gazed upon the breathtaking beaches of Aruba and Dipen, down on one knee, asking me to be his forever partner. It was a picture-perfect moment, with the sun setting and painting the sky in hues of gold and pink, as if nature itself was rejoicing in our love. Overwhelmed with joy, I wholeheartedly said “Yes!” to the man who had captured my heart.

When the time came to plan our wedding, we found ourselves at a crossroads once again. We pondered between a local celebration in the NJ/NY area or a destination wedding. And then it dawned on us—our first vacation together was a trip to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. This tropical paradise had already played a significant role in our love story, becoming a symbol of adventure, laughter, and the discovery of the depths of our love. It seemed only fitting to exchange our vows at the stunning Hard Rock Hotel in Punta Cana, surrounded by the same enchanting beauty that witnessed the beginnings of our journey.

Once the decision was made, we began envisioning the celebration we had dreamt of. We knew we wanted to infuse our cultural traditions with a touch of modern flair, making each event meaningful and unforgettable. Our wedding week was filled with joyous festivities, combining the Sangeet and Garba into a vibrant Welcome Party that set the tone for the days to come. The Pithi and Grah Shanti ceremony followed. Of course, the pinnacle of our celebration was the wedding itself, followed by a grand reception. Throughout each event, we wanted to create a cohesive and distinctive atmosphere. So, we decided on a rustic boho theme, a perfect blend of uniqueness and consistency. Even our outfits were designed to reflect our desire for individuality. For the Pithi ceremony, we opted for stunning purple attire to stand out amidst our guests that would mostly be wearing yellow. As for our wedding, a palette of soft mint and pink adorned the entire affair, with our bridal party and family outfits perfectly complementing our own.
Yet, it wasn’t just the aesthetics that made our wedding truly memorable. We wanted to break away from traditional norms and embrace the spirit of gender equality. We cherished moments like applying sindoor on each other, exchanging mangal sutras, and openly sharing kisses on the mandap. Gone were the days of covering faces; instead, I proudly walked down the aisle staring right at the man that I was about to marry. These moments were precious and filled our hearts with a sense of liberation and love that will forever remain etched in our memories.

If there is one memory from our wedding that I could relive every day, it would undoubtedly be our reception. It was our final event, a moment where stress melted away, and we were able to fully relax and enjoy ourselves. It felt like being in a club, living our best lives. We danced on the DJ stage, crowd-surfed through the dance floor, and even danced on chairs. Surrounded by our loved ones, who were having just as much fun as us, it was a moment of pure bliss.
