Blog Amman + Darin, a Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden Wedding
In a world of whirlwind romances, a not-so-whirlwind yet magical story keeps the belief that ‘All you need is love’ alive. Darin Huq and Amman Al Aziz’s journey began with a chance encounter at the gym and little did they know that this seemingly ordinary meeting would blossom into a love story and culminate in a beautiful seven-day grand wedding in Dhaka.
The two connected over shared dreams, ambitions, and a mutual desire to build empires together. The proposal was nothing short of a surprise or so Amman thought. While Darin already suspected that the apparent ‘family dinner’ was going to spin her whole world, Amman lived up to that belief when he knelt before her presenting a mois et trois ring that symbolized their love. A Zambian emerald represents him and a pear-shaped diamond represents her.
The wedding was a celebration of love, culture, and unity- a true reflection of their third-generation upbringing. With guests from over 42 different nationalities, the festivities melded the best of East and West. Day 1 started with the Akth ceremony- a dream day for Darin as she saw her childhood fantasy of an intimate, white wedding unfolding in a beautiful Sabyasachi saree. ‘Kubool Hai,’ the couple said to each other, marking the union of their love. The grand welcome dinner themed ‘All Black, No Tie,’ on Day 2 unfolded in their ancestral home, adhering to Amman’s late grandfather’s wishes. Darin shared, “When Amman’s Dada was alive, he desired for each of his grandchildren to host at least one wedding event in his home.”
The Gaye Holud, themed ‘Blooms of Paradise,’ was a wild celebration highlighted by a special hilarious song by Darin’s Chacha(Uncle), in collaboration with Coke Studio, ‘Hey What’s Up Amman Bhaia,’ performed by their close Bangladeshi rapper friends and told the story of both Amman and Darin. The wedding itself themed ‘Royal Rhapsody’ was an exchange of garlands between the couple. A sacred ritual followed, here the groom held a mirror for the bride to see her reflection, symbolizing a promise to cherish and support her always.
The reception had over 3000 guests in attendance with Darin in a stunning custom-made blue Gaurav Gupta dress. It was certainly one for the books and a ‘Glitz & Glam’ themed affair. Day 6, on 31st of December began with a fun Rong Khela at Bhawal Resort 40 km away from Dhaka. The couple’s entry was orchestrated in a chopper and was followed with a once-in-a-lifetime New Year’s celebration, a fitting way to culminate the wedding week and also welcome the new year filled with newcomings and beginnings for the couple.
Theirs is a love grounded in stability, kindness, and the deep-rooted bond of friendship. It’s not every day that we witness a Bangladeshi union, and Darin and Amman’s story was one where love was found in the pages of reality.
Himanshu the founder of Epic Stories: “For me, it was a chance to witness traditions that resonate with the Indian roots, but also take on a beautiful new life here. An exploration of the exotic and uncharted beauty of Bangladesh. As an Indian photographer, capturing a high-profile Bangladeshi wedding is a rare honour. Every frame captured was an emotion unique to this land and its people. There was a sense of reverence for the centuries-old customs and inclusivity of modern cultures at this wedding. Every wedding has its place, its significance, and its story to tell, and translating it through our lens was a fulfilling experience.”
