Aashish & Meghal’s Wedding Weekend in the Pacific Northwest
From our first call with Aashish and Meghal, the brief for their wedding celebration was simple:
“It needs to be…magical.”
Guests flew in from around the world to celebrate the couple. The puja and Haldi festivities
opened at Meghal’s family home in Washington. Her mother and aunties began to tear up as the
reality of the weekend ahead started to set in. Soon, Aashish arrived with a literal ‘busload’ of
family and friends, the smell of freshly made bhatura already in the air.
That evening the Sangeet—the unofficial family talent show, was held in downtown Portland,
Oregon. Aunties in jewel-toned saris nailed synchronized steps, while friends danced to
Bollywood bangers.
The next day’s ceremony took place at a modern ranch style venue in Stevenson, Washington
on the Columbia River Gorge. The DavidAnn’s approach of documentary & editorial, showcased
a heartfelt first look, candid bridal party portraits, a vintage BMW motorcade for the Baraat, and
a parade of hundreds descending the hillside towards the gorgeous pastel mandap. Everyone
felt that they were transported to the most magical modern day bollywood scene.
Back in Portland, for a candle-lit disco party themed reception, we captured images of the
couple in their regal attire, using glimmering details of their outfits to create light paintings and
starry night effects.
Aashish and Meghal brought the very best of their culture to this slice of the Pacific Northwest
for one special weekend, something truly magical.
